Drink 'n' Bitch: now with extra babyness!

On Monday of this week I had a very special date in Carroll Gardens with a very special (little) man: Benjamin Iddo Levy, son of Robert Levy (aka relby) and Dan Sacher. Benjie was a perfect gentleman in all things, although he seemed to be rather less interested in me than in trying to cram his eensy baby fist into his mouth. Which, I'll admit, is way more fascinating than anything I had to say. Also, he did drool a bit on my shoulder, but most dates do that to me at some point, so whatever. We babbled for a while, had drinks (formula for him, followed by a trip to the Clover Club for grown-up drinks for me and our chaperone, Robert), listened to some classic jazz, gossiped, and chatted about writing. One of us dozed for a bit in their carriage, but I'm not saying who! After an hour of drinking 'n' bitching (and some hiccups), we were joined by Dan, who contributed much to both the drinking and bitching parts of our get-together. Benjie gave me some excellent writing advice, but I didn't catch all of it as I was busy fighting with Robert over these incredible little pigs in blankets dipped in Dijon mustard. All in all, it was one of my most successful Bitch 'n' Drink sessions, and I look forward to spending many more afternoons with Benjamin and his very cool parents.

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
