Good news and bad news

The Good News:

** It's finally cold out. YAY!! Yes, I know I'm a freak. But I cannot stand warm weather. And that FUCKING humidity... when I retire, I'm moving to Alaska with my books and my sweaters, and roll around in glaciers till I die. See comment about being a freak above.

** I'm a little over 11,000 words into the novel, but I stopped writing this weekend to work on the synopsis. I met up with Mary Robinette Kowal, and we spent the later part of the day tapping away at our notebooks whilst drinking beer and eating pot stickers and crab cakes (we later moved to a Chinese restaurant, and did unspeakable things to a dish of sesame chicken). Mmmm, writing food... Anyway, I was able to plot out the first third of the novel, and I feel much relieved. Now I know what the fuck I'm writing about! Go me!

** Today I'm eating Apple Brown Betty! No, she's not my lesbian lover, pervs.

The Bad News:

** It's finally cold out. Shit. Herbert was all "fuck this!" and left for the Caribbean this morning. I hope he sends me a postcard!

** The reason I'm eating Apple Brown Betty is because I'm starting my annual Baking Frenzy. My apartment is about 40 degrees, and until the heat is turned on - on November 1 - this is about as warm as it'll get. I'm going to be using the oven a LOT for the rest of the month, as well as taking hot showers at odd hours, warming my hands over my laptop, and reciting lines from "The Little Match Girl" while I light candles and stir me thin grey gruel over the fire I made from a broken kitchen chair.

** I ate too much Chinese food last night. And I had the leftovers this morning for breakfast. Not a good idea. ::BURP::

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
