Under My Roof

He is MINE!

Yes, I'm home now - and I'm kind of relieved. The last couple of days exhausted me. I'm completely Europed out now, at least for the rest of the year. But it was a great trip, and I've got about 1400 photos to prove it. I'll be slowly - very slowly - uploading them over the next week. But for the rest of today and tomorrow, I'm doing nothing.

However, I did want to show you the very first photo I'm posting from Leuven. Yes, I bought him. He's an 18-inch lime green garden gnome that also DOUBLES AS A PIGGY BANK! I saw him my very first day in Belgium, but the shop he was perched in - Living Lounge - was always closed whenever I walked past it. I left for France with a heavy heart, and thought of nothing but that hideous lime green creature even whilst I was wandering the forest roads of Burgundy and meandering through the treasures of the Louvre. BUT! as luck would have it, the shop was open the last day of my trip. I raced inside, babbled OMG GNOME ME BUY NOW GIVE!!1!, and the clerk managed to transform my garbled English into a sale. I stuffed him into my suitcase, surrounded him with dirty laundry - just like he'll be in my apartment - and voila! I can haz gnome! I plan to put all the money I earn from writing into him, and save it for another trip to Europe. And at the rate I'm selling stories, this means I'll be going to France again sometime in 8793. YAY!

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
