Hey, I forgot: I'm a writer!

Well, the wee little flash story is out the door. After some extremely useful crits, and a slash-and-burn session that lopped off 100 words, the remaining 500 were sent to the Postcards From Hell project. If it doesn't make it there, I might just send it off to Cemetery Dance.

Still doing masses of reading for my sooper-sekrit project that I blab-blogged about a few weeks back. Some of it's very interesting, and some of it's so boooooring. Lots of technical reading. That's about all the story is for now - research, with a few ideas floating around. I should start writing a few things down soon, though.

In the meantime, next up is a rewrite of "The Girls of the World", my bio-mechanical spider steampunk story (written almost two years ago) that I'm turning into a novella. This is one of those situations where I have to throw away almost the entire first draft, and just keep the basic ideas, characters, and world. There's some nice sentences in the first draft, but not enough to hang something better on. I'd like to get this finished by the end of April. I'm also going to rewrite my Cernunnos-in-a-shopping-mall story, "Her Deepness" - but I can't figure out what it needs yet. More sex, or less sex? More? Less? I think you all know which one I'm leaning toward...

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
