The cranky post

Well, "The Four Hundred Thousand" is resting peacefully in a ginormous slush pile. I highly doubt that it will make it past the slush readers, but that's to be expected - I'm submitting to markets that are inundated with manuscripts every week, so I think it's going to be much harder to place than my previous stories (if at all, that is).

I've been spending the last couple of days thinking about what I want to work on next. My plans for writing a series of steampunk novellas have sort of died on the vine, because I've come to realize that there is simply no market for novellas - other than romantic or paranormal erotica, and that's only if I want to use an e-publisher, which I do not (besides, I want to steer away from writing erotica, except for the occasional story). The fact is, I have a list of projects lined up that aren't marketable. So I need to think about whether or not I want to spend the next couple of months working on things that won't sell, or if I want to continue writing stories, or if I want to start working on a novel. I have no idea what to do. Honestly, right now I don't want to do anything. Well, except mope. :/

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
