Graduation Day

Ok, it's a bit early - by two days, to be precise. However, Liz told us that on Friday we'd get a special visit from "the Mayor", whoever that is. I dunno, but I'm gonna bring Mr. Pointy, just in case.

The full set of photos are right here.

We have six stories for workshop tomorrow, and it looks like there'll be at least six more on Friday. Lots of reading, but no writing, so I feel a little less crazed and pressed for time than usual. I spent this afternoon packing and boxing up my books - I went nuts at Curious and Archives book stores, so I have a lot to ship, unfortunately. My foot is better, though - much thanks to Robert Levy and Alex Wilson for getting that bitch New York to bring me beer. And Andy Wolverton's gift box of two weeks ago provided the drugs, in the form of aspirin. Yeah!

I forgot to mention that I had my one-on-one with Holly yesterday. We went over a few of my stories, then brainstormed ideas for "Summer of Love" - the novelette that will someday become a novel. Between her ideas, Kelly's, and some incredible critiques from the class, this broken story now has the potential to become a really kick-ass horror novel. Someday, that is - I have a lot of work to do before I'll be up to the task of writing it.

Another massive thunderstorm outside - I'm going to miss them.

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
