Joe and Gay Haldeman are the Shiznit

The Haldeman's held their Science Fiction Poetry Slam tonight - we were each given a subject and a form, and had to read the poem tonight to a slightly tipsy and pizza-stuffed audience. Many photos were taken (which I'll post tomorrow), many songs were sung, and many wonderful poems were read. Naturally, my poem - "future war" in the style of a Shakespearean sonnet - grew into a story idea, so I had nothing to present, but will have a nice subject to work with for my third and final story. The title is "The Four Hundred Thousand", and it'll be YA.

More tomorrow - I'm tired.

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
