Well, that's it for now...

Last night my notebook died. The bad news is LAST NIGHT MY FUCKING NOTEBOOK DIED. So, that pretty much quashes any chances I had of finishing the novella I'd wanted to hand in to [awesome quick-paying market that loves me] by the end of the year. Also, the novel I'd planned on starting next year is now officially on the back burner, since I have no intention of trying to bang out 2000 words a day on a legal pad - I'm slow enough as it is on a keyboard, lol. Yes, I do have a couple of finished stories out in submission, but even if they sold (and sold at pro rates), I doubt I'd see any money until the latter half of next year or even 2010, so getting it fixed isn't an option right now. Did I mention FUCK FUCKING FUCKITY-FUCKFUCK?? No? Ok, well, now I did.

The good news is that I back the holy fucking shit out of everything on a daily basis, so the only documents I lost were a few recipes I hadn't transferred over to my flash drive, and the last few songs I downloaded from iTunes - oh, and "Wall-E". Big deal. I didn't lose a single word of any of my writing or office documents. YAY! And next July, when I get my annual raise and bonus (ok, yeah, it'll probably be pretty damn small...), I'll be able to, at the least, afford to get the notebook fixed or buy one of those eensy Acer notebooks. And yes, I can bang out a couple hundred words a night on a legal pad - I'll work on the novella in increments for the next few months until it's finished; and after that, there are a few in-progress stories I can finish during my evenings. Thankfully most of my music is already on my iPod, so at least I have something to listen to whilst I'm scratching out words in old-timey longhand, by candlelight. Awesome!

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
