Perspective: Genre Writers Haz It

So: literary writers can give away an 80,000 word novel outright to James Frey for a whole $500!

Meanwhile…

genre writers can sell a short story to any one of a number of pro markets for $500. Or sell a 20k word novella for the pro rate of four or more “Freys”. Or sell a novel for anywhere from six to twenty Freys, to maybe sixty or more Freys for a series, or even two hundred Freys and counting for a blockbuster – all the way up to two thousand Freys (which I believe then becomes a “Jordan” – or a “Goodkind” or “Cronin”, all depending on your tastes) and beyond. And all this without signing away our rights. So….

Yeah.

Marine Autumn

I owe you marine autumn
With dankness at its roots
and fog like a grape
and the graceful sun of the country;
and the silent space
in which sorrows lose themselves
and only the bright crown
of joy comes to the surface.

--Pablo Neruda.
